Sunset

A simple facial portrait with a limited palette and some graphic elements to spruce it up. I was inspired by Loish's wonderful portraits and tried something similar: drawn without reference, she somehow ended up looking like Dr. Halsey from the Halo TV series I was watching a the time. That was creepy because the character is creepy. I got lost in the hair that would've been sooo much easier with digital but persistence prevailed. After repainting her cheek what felt like ten times, I was okay with the portrait but found it uninteresting. In those cases I often use graphical elements to spruce things up. Taping string to an acrylic marker gave me circles, whose wonkiness I broke up with some thicker blobs. The exercise's result was a better use of subdued colours because i am guilty of using too many paints straight from the tube.
My materials were Daler+Rowney system 3 acrylic paints, and Molotow acrylic marker.
"Sunset", A4, acrylics and ink on Yupo paper.
