It's a shame to just let sketches rot that clients rejected, so I worked this into a proper character illustration. The idea of a totem animal or familiars is even better than pets, and works with all sorts of characters. One could argue that covering a character's eyes shouldn't be done, being so important to many viewers - it was my main reason to spend so much time on the image however. I created a model with DAZ and Blender for the lighting. I do like bokeh effects a lot, so I also used a lot here.
With my deadlines, it took me nearly two months to finish this whenever I could spare an hour.
